The Coral - Live Videos

I recently found a slew of live Coral videos on YouTube. There's some pretty great rare stuff on there like this wild performance of Follow the Sun which was a b-side to Dreaming of You. I wish the Coral would put out more songs like this these days. I also really liked the live version of Time Travel. They end it with a cover of Bob Marley's Get Up, Stand Up which I'm not really a fan of, but it sounds cool because it fits right into the end part of Time Travel.

Payong Mukda - Klong Yao

From Subliminal Sounds Thai Beat A-Go-Go compilation, here's the opening track. A crazy instrumental beat number that doesn't really sound like anything typical from it's time. The blending of modern American beat music of the time and traditional Thai music fuse together to form something completely original and different sounding. Although labeled as "Kratae" by the group Johnny Guitar on the compilation, the track is apparently actually called "Klong Yao" by the group Payong Mukda meaning "pocket music."

The Jam - 100 Club, 9/11/77

Great live set from The Jam on September 11, 1977. Has all the great songs from In The City, a few tracks from the upcoming This Is The Modern World album, among others. The standout tracks for me, however, are the 60s soul covers like Heatwave, Sweet Soul Music, and Midnight Hour. The Jam rip through them giving them a whole new life.

The Saxons - Things Have Been Bad (1966)

Here's a real garage punk stomper! The Saxons (West Palm Beach, Florida) recorded this song for the Yorkshire label in 1966. Awesome fuzz guitar and solo. It can be found on the Teenage Shutdown - Vol. 3 Compilation on Crypt Records.

The Monteras - Cry Myself To Sleep (1967)

Here's a moody garage/psych song from Chicago's Monteras. Apparently there's only 2 known copies of this record in existence. "Cry Myself To Sleep" was the b-side to "You're a Tease" which I haven't actually heard yet.

The Lolas - Soul 70

Here's a cool sleazy soul track from Vampisoul's "Movers!" compilation. I haven't been able to find any information about this band or song. Hopefully there's a full album of material like this out there somewhere.

Mad Mike & The Maniacs - The Hunch (1961)

The fact that this song came out in 1961 blows my mind. I don't know anything else from that time period that is this wild aside from maybe a few Link Wray tracks. I first heard it on the Radio Cramps Purple Knif Show CD which, if you can track it down, I highly recommend.

I don't know exactly what it is about this one that I like so much. Like everything on this comp, it's pretty primitive. It just kind of grooves along. Cool guitar solo too.
